COCC Campus Center Building

Central Oregon Community College seeks to commission a permanent large scale work of art for the new Campus Center building on the COCC campus in Bend, Oregon.

The new Campus Center building is currently under construction with a scheduled opening in the spring of 2009. The building will be 31,000 square feet and will be easily accessible from College Way. The building will include a rehearsal hall for COCC’s symphony, student organizations, and a coffee shop among many other offices and meeting spaces. The work of art is to be located on (or in front of) an exterior wall of the building (and may include the courtyard) at the main entrance to the Campus Center building. The proximity of the main entrance of the building to College Way will be highly visible for both pedestrian and automobile traffic and will provide wide exposure for the building’s work of art.

COCC Culinary Institute Plaza

Art in Public Places seeks to commission a permanent large scale work of art for the Culinary Institute Plaza on the Central Oregon Community College campus in Bend, Oregon.

The 25,000 sq. plaza will be located at COCC’s new state-of-the-art culinary arts teaching facility, the Cascade Culinary Institute. The design intent of the new development is to blur the boundary between college and community and create an active space used by students, faculty, staff and the community. The plaza will serve as the “heart” of the mixed used development and potentially include a college bookstore, retails shops, a bank branch and childcare center in Phase I of the development. The public artwork for the site would serve as an “identifying signature” and landmark for the new culinary institute building and COCC.
